Be Thou An Example...

Do you have days that you wonder if your children are going to make it in society? As a parent, one of my greatest desires for my children is that they have good character traits.  I want them to be kind and thoughtful to each other and to those they associate with. 

It seems that I am constantly after two of my children to stop fighting. Anyone else have that problem, or is it just me?  They are always saying mean things, tattling or teasing one another.  Somedays our learning time is spent extinguishing fires between the two that fight the most.  I feel our day is wasted because of the resentment these two have against each other.  

After a lot of prayers and thought I decided we needed to work on a theme for the year.  About this same time one of my friends posted what her family is working on this year.  It was exactly what my family needs,  a reminder to be an example.  I decided to make the following scripture our theme and goal this year. 

"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, 
in faith, in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12

Be Thou An Example...

In Word

֍ Use words to lift and inspire, not to harm and demean. Let your words tend to edify one another.

In Conversation

֍ Speak to and about others with love and respect, avoid comments that would wound or offend.

In Charity

֍ “the pure love of Christ.” Help others and lift their spirits. Bring hope to the hopeless and strength to the weak.

In Spirit

֍ Strive to have in our lives kindness, gratitude, forgiveness, and goodwill toward others. Radiate the Light of Christ.

In Faith

֍ Nourish the beliefs that will guide our thoughts and actions. Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and in our Heavenly Father will influence all that we do. Prayer and scripture study is vital.

In Purity

֍ Be clean in body, mind, and spirit. Treat our bodies with reverence and respect. Our minds should be filled with uplifting and ennobling thoughts.
