Treasures of the Snow

I absolutely love this book.  I hadn't ever heard of Treasures of the Snow until my daughter was assigned to read it as part of her book club.  I read it out loud to all of my children and so glad that I did.  It is one of the those books that leaves you feeling uplifted after reading it.  There are so many little treasures of wisdom throughout its pages.

Treasures of the Snow is a story about two children who live in the Swiss Alps. The story follows them through a tragic event and tells how both Annette, her brother and Lucien deal with that tragic day.  One child seeks forgiveness, the other harbors hate and is unforgiving.

The summary from the back of the book says: "Annette's little brother is crippled, and Lucien, the village bully, is responsible.  Controlled by anger and hatred, Annette vows she will never forgive Lucien and sets out to hurt him in every way she can."

As Annette and Lucien both make bad choices and learn to forgive one another, Christ enters their hearts and floods their lives with light.

There are so many lessons to be learned from Treasures of the Snow such as: forgiveness, repentance, service and learning to become as Christ would have you become.

Patricia St. John did such a wonderful job of weaving the Gospel of Jesus Christ into her writing in a way that is enjoyable and uplifting.

This is a book that will be read over and over in our home and I'm sure I will learn a new lesson with every reading.

  1. Our children also love Treasures of the Snow, the Tanglewoods Secret, and basically all of Patricia St. John's books! We have an audiobook tape of Tanglewood's Secret, and they have actually memorised most of it, including the English accents! (We are Scottish). I agree with you that Patricia St. John has done a good job of weaving the Gospel into her stories- it does not seem 'forced' at all. Thank you for sharing :-)

  2. Thank you for your comment. I haven't read Tanglewoods Secret yet, but I plan on adding it to our list of books to read. I love a book that is entertaining as well as one that teaches character.
