Looking for a fantastic read during the cold winter months? Or how about a book that teaches respect to parents, diligence and hard work? Little Britches is quickly becoming a favorite read aloud for my littles. I can hardly stop at one chapter as they ask for just one more chapter.
The Little Britches is the first book in the autobiography series written by Ralph Moody. Ralph tells us about his family moving from back east to a ranch in Colorado. As the family works together to scrape out a living in Colorado, you can't help but respect the value of hard work the Moody's are teaching their children. Not only is the book entertaining, but also rich in character building values such as honesty, integrity, family unity, repentance and hard work.
Ralph's father is such a wonderful teacher as he teaches Ralph the value of earning respect, trust and putting in a days honest work. Ralph doesn't always make the right choice but his father is quick to help him realize how to fix those mistakes. One such time was after Ralph told a lie, his father said,
"If (a man) tells lies to be able to do the things he shouldn't do but wants to, his character will soon become a ruin. A man with a ruined character is a shame on the face of the earth."I have found the Little Britches series to be uplifting and inspirational and as you read it you can't help but ponder on the important things in life.
