Story of the World Vol. 1 Ch. 28

The Roman Empire

Chapter 28 talks about Roman Gods. The Roman worshipped Greek and Egyptian Gods but they gave them Roman names. The Romans used stories about their Gods to explain nature. I guess it was there way of trying to figure out how the world works such as why are there seasons.
Romans were famous for their building. They are the first civilization to build concrete roads and the first to discover how to make concrete.   Romans loved to take baths in their bath houses so as you can imagine they needed a lot of water. They built amazing aqueducts to bring water into the city.  There is so much we can learn from the Romans.

 Extra Activities:

This is one of my favorite history sites for kids: learn about Rome.

Read about Roman Mosaics and make your own with bits of paper, rocks, beans, beads, etc.

Most Roman Gods originated from the Greeks, Egyptians and other cultures, however there were a few that originated from Roman like Janus.  Make your own Janus mask.

Introduce students to Roman art with this large unit study.

Learn about arches and try to build one.  How much weight can it hold?

Use Google earth to look at the Colosseum.
