September 17th is Constitution Day

On September 17, 1787 the US Constitution was signed at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia by 39 signers.  In 2004  a law was established that made Constitutional Day an official holiday. Even though it has been established as a holiday, we really don't celebrate it like any other holiday.  In fact, I didn't even realize it was an actual holiday until I consulted the Internet.

Don't let the day go by without celebrating with your littles.  Ways to learn about the Constitution include:
Learn the Vocabulary:  Read the preamble then get out an old fashioned dictionary and look up the words as they can be a little daunting.  Work on memorizing the preamble.  Help your children paraphrase the Articles on an index card.

Write your own Constitution:  Discuss what "founding principles" you want for your family. What values and guiding principles are important for your everyday life? Have you children write their own Constitution down.

Practice writing the Preamble: Copywork for learning the Preamble.
Take a quiz  to learn what founder you are most like.
